Suede and leather care

Both materials can be enjoyed for years with a little mindful care. All suede items have been treated with a water- and stain-resistant finish. Use these quick tips to protect the finish and character of your bag.

  • Everyday wear: Suede is suitable for everyday use when conditions are dry and you take care to avoid rubbing and spills.
  • Moisture: Suede readily absorbs moisture, which can darken or flatten its nap; smooth leather is more resistant but can still spot, swell, or dry out. Keep both away from heavy rain, and blot accidental wetness gently without heat.
  • Stains: Prevent marks by keeping bags away from oils, cosmetics, and dark-dye transfer. For suede, let wet marks dry and lift dry dirt with a suede brush or eraser; for smooth leather, wipe promptly with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid household cleaners and test any care product discreetly first.
  • Brushing suede: Brush only when dry, using a clean suede brush with light, even strokes in one direction to lift the nap. Use gentle back-and-forth strokes only on a stubborn dry mark, without pressing hard.
  • Protectant and aging: A compatible suede spray may help repel light moisture but can deepen color or change texture; smooth-leather sprays can alter sheen and may reduce natural patina. Follow the product directions, test a hidden area, and remember that protectants do not prevent all stains or aging.
